not long to go now!!

 

Hey Guys

Not long now till we are all said and done on the Challenge.

I know some of you will be looking forward to it, and there will be a well earned party at the end of it for all. That’s on Saturday 21st starting around 7pm. Drinks specials provided and a buffet dinner option at $45 if you wish to eat

Don’t forget to invite as many people as you like it will be a great time and a chance to get to know some more people from the gym.

Details are available from all the staff at the gym

 

The testing for the BIA testing is on next Friday from 3-7pm, so book in now, its imperative that you do this as final team points will be based on amount of FAT LOSS you show on the test, NOT kilograms lost. That’s to discourage major amounts of crash dieting and a sudden frenzy for the sauna to combat the test. We think its better to reflect the hard work put in across the entire challenge from the participants, and not eating celery sticks in  a last dash for cash in the last week to make the weight loss look great.

So just a heads up

 

BONUS CHALLENGE

Latino next Thursday 19th @ 7pm.

You know you loved it last time so lets finish it all off with a shake down boogie ha ha

All participants with shirts on will get 10points per person that comes along… a last dash for points

Please be there by 7pm and write your name on the register or book into the class at reception!!

Mid-Winter Party

If you would like to come to the Mid-Winter Party please RSVP to info@genesisfitness.co.nz or when you’re next in the gym let the reception staff know.

Partners are welcome, so please let us know if you will be bringing someone.

$45 for a buffet dinner and then lots of drinks afterwards J It will be good fun, and a chance to hang out with everyone outside of the gym.

Last 3 weeks folks!!

 

And we are down to the homestretch folks…

 

Many painful knuckles from boxing, sweating foreheads in spin, the shame swallowing act that is Latino, will all come to an end on the 20th of August.

As I have said before it has been a rewarding time for my self as a manager to see so many of you take on the challenge with the competitive spirit I had hoped, but also the collective spirit of supporting each other thru it has been more than pleasing. I guess looking back on it all, supporting each other whether they be family of fellow gym members, is one of the greatest gifts we can give to each other, and I’m not trying to be cheesy on that one!!.

 

Here are the rules and details for the final month of the challenge

 

·         Final day will be the Friday 20th August when the gym closes at 9pm. You will have till this time to try and get your group fitness points and also gym attendance for that week.

·         Final BIA testing will be done on Friday 20th of August also, from 3-7pm at the gym. We will take bookings like last time but it is YOUR responsibility to get in at this time to get your final results weighed and measured. The results obtained from Discover Naturopathy will be collated to get the weight loss points also and added for your team BEFORE prize giving on Saturday night. This is the fair and accurate way to go. Just like last time it will be in the assessment office and I will use the results to get the most weight lost by a member, and also the greatest percentage of body fat. So go hard for the final weeks folks. And…. JUDGES decision is final!!! Ha ha

·         The prize giving is at the Paddington on the 21st of August and lots of prizes up for grabs!! Team awards, action man/woman, gym junkie, team players and biggest loser just to name a few, so please make sure you get along!! Anyone is invited so lets get good numbers.

 

 

Remember enjoy this last month, get lots of points for your teams, organize the baby sitters for the 21st, and remember to swipe your gym card!!!

For  a little spice on everyones blog, lets add some photos

 

Send in 2 training photos of you or anyone in your team training some time during this 12 week challenge to my email address by Monday 2nd august at 12pm for a 30 point top up.

 

Any photo will do but has to be obvious it is some one in your team and they are training

That’s 2 photos per team. Hopefully they are from 2 separate people within your team and cant have the same pic as another team so first in first served

Not long till the end now folks we are nearing the end and there is a BIG BIG party being planned for the 21st August at the Paddington Bar in Parnell. An apt end to the challenge that everone has done so well at, and details will be up around the gym soon. Be a great night, lots of prizes up for grabs and a free dinner and more prizes for the winning team so don’t take the foot off the gas. Partners are of course invited as is most of the gym, so they can all come and cheer on you evolutions bunnies and clap and cheer also

 

I have got some special conditions for  the last month and group fitness points so will keep you posted on Monday about the conditions and how the final months points will be accumulated

Recognise this guy??

Need some inspiration??

Want to see what years of dedication and commitment looks like??

 

Then come and see Athena Team leader & Genesis PT, Rick Ujfalussy, strut his stuff (in his Speedos) at the 2010 Counties Manukau Bodybuilding Championships.

 

Rick’s been eating nothing but chicken and air but has also been training very hard at the gym so it would be great to get as much support for him this weekend as we can.

 

He currently holds the title of ‘Mr Waikato’ and his dedication means he’s got a great chance of picking up another title on Saturday.

 

When:    This coming Saturday 24th July

 

Where:   Hawkins Theatre in Papakura

                13 Ray Small Drive (of Elliot St)

 

Cost:       $15.00 for pre-judging starting at 1pm & $25.00

                 for the finals which starts at 6:30pm.

 

There will be Genesis staff there and it would be great to get some gym members along to cheer Rick on (and put the pressure on him to perform in front of us)

quiz night

Oh how funny was the quiz night!!??

Hats off to all teams who managed to scrape a team together in the school holidays and get some solid points

EVERY team managed to get a table of 5 people along and wearing a shirt so all get the maximum of 120 points which will be added next week.

Its becoming a tight race and im sure that we will have an exciting finish, with team Zeus mixing it up with the Septu team, showing what regular gym attendance and solid class attendance will get you points wise. Team Ares is holding steady yet I feel like they will be strong finishes and are now getting their team a little more hard core. Team maru needs just a fraction more consistency to mix it with the big boys and Minerva got off the bottom and have the lead in sight. Athena is a sleeping giant I think also and have plenty of motivation going ahead.

Just a heads up…. The Evolution Challenge will finish on AUGUST 20th August so we can have a prize giving function on the Saturday 21st a chance to get together and share stories and experiences and throw out some trophies and commend every participant in a small wee way.

Keep up the hard work folks, keep your team motivated, an remember, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday

Been away :(

Hi team,

 

Hope everyone is going well.

 

I have been overseas for most of the last week, but am hoping to get back on track for the class points tomorrow morning with the 6.30am RPM class if anyone else is keen?

 

I have been running quite a lot though while I have been away- so keeping up the cardio. Candz- I am doing the half marathon in Oct..also the Waitakere one J

Me so far this month....

Hey Team,

Well I started the week well with Kick fit on Monday and Boxing on Tuesday.  Did my PT with Jimmy this morning and was thinking of MC2 this arvo before Quiz and then Pump tomorrow AM – so that would mean 4 classes down and 4 to go.

Feeling pretty good and all the wobbly bits are starting to firm up….scales are up and down though. :-/

Anyway, see you tonight and if not tonight tomorrow and if not tomorrow then whenever!

Well can you believe that 5 weeks are down already - only 7 to go.  Had fun at boxing last night with Erin and Hillary.  Going to try out the new reflex (pump) class tonight at 6.30pm with Dani and Hillary.  Will report back on it.  I am in for the 6am class with Jimmy on Thursday - so hope to see a good group of Team Maru there.

Making it up for the team

So my first blog!! Wohooo and you would think being the youngest (I think I’m the youngest?!?) I would be all over this blog!

So to make up for my poor performance due to my knee I have got max points for week one already and I am going to go to 8 different classes! Pilates tonight, if anyone is keen?

And to the gym this morning to do a PT with Jimmy.  Thought it was all over and then realized we had only done 20min! L

So did the question of when does the week start get answered???

As we near the end of our first calendar month, the oppurtunity to get max points for your team are getting slim!!

Wednesday 30th June is last day of the month so last chance saloon for group fitness points.

Remember its 8 DIFFERENT classes for 10 points, and for 5 points you only need 4 different classes, so you can even get that done in the next 2 days if your committed!!

Watch this space for “re:flex” pump classes coming soon on Mondays and Wednesday evenings @ 6.30pm…

We had a hilarious night at latino last week and I think we all had fun and we all had a crack up watching each other do the ‘swivel’.

Try and remember the moves and we will get it together for a team dance off later in the competition

 

We are now 5 weeks in folks,  and I am more than pleased as to how its going and you can all give yourselves a pat on the back. Its tough going, but the team trainings and commraderie is something to be admired,  and remember you point whores out there… its all about fun so

 

No bonus poitnts this week but high 5’s to those doing tough guy tough girl this weekend… represent Genesis with plenty of gusto and mudslinging competitiveness!!!

Had a blast at Zumba last night.  All my bad memories of my previous Zumba class out East are now forgotten and I may do this class again. J

Lock in Latino Thursday!!!

 

 

 

Hey Guys,

 

This week we have some massive bonus points up for grabs!

Your task,  should you be able to get a baby sitter or get the hubby to cook will be making it to the Latino Dance Class!

The class is this Thursday 24th June at 7pm!

Yes, I know some of you may get a little embarrassed at the thought of have to dance around in front of other apparent coordinated people, but there are 10 POINTS up for grab for each team member that attends! So if you can get your whole team there, that’s 100 POINTS right there!

 

Here are the rules:

 

-          Your name must be down on the Latino Class sign in sheet

-          You must attend the whole session. NO LEAVING EARLY!

-          You cannot be anymore than 10mins late.

-          Please participate with enthusiasm. You cannot just stand there lifting your arms up and down! Shake what your mama gave you!!!

-          10 points per team member that participates

 

No one is too uncoordinated to do this class. It’s for all fitness and skill levels.

It’s a great work out but it’s also loads of fun!

 

Down the line there will be a Latino Dance Challenge between teams so this is a good chance to practice your dance moves. You made need them later!

Getting in those classes for maximum points

Hi Team, for those who have not tried the "Kick It" class, it was certainly a challenge and resulted in both Dani and I having very sore shins (the main point of contact with the bag when doing some of your kicks) at the end.  Apparently the instructor did not have a watch either and we ended up doing 70 mins worth.  So we both worked hard for Team Maru last night!  
Candz - I am going to do the boxing class on Wed night (will wear my Maru T-Shirt) so see you there.
Hope to see a great turn out of Maruians at the Thursday night Latin dancing class - should be some laughs.

Kick Boxing

Hey team,

 

I went to my first ‘Kick it’ class last night, not originally because I wanted to go, but Juddy gave me some ‘gentle’ persuading when I walked in the door of the gym!

 

Lisa was there aswell, so we had some representation for the Maruians!

 

Anyway I actually ended up really enjoying myself, (don’t tell Juddy that though..haha) except for the big bruise on my shin this morning!

 

Recommend it to those of you who haven’t tried it before, good to go after work and get any frustration from the day out out of the system.

I didn't think it was so bad..

I thought it was a doddle really.... hahaha just kidding, honestly just kidding!!  My thighs felt the leg work when I tried to climb the stairs and I’m still embarrassed about that rotation machine – much too complicated for a ditz like me.  I’m back on track and have a great week planned at the gym, thank goodness Jimmy’s back on deck is all I can say.  I plan to nail the last of my 8 activities but we’ll see...

Group Session 2 - Sat 19 Jun

Hi Team Maru,
Thanks to Juddy and Jimmy for a fun and challenging workout this morning for 6 of us girls.  Everyone gave it there all and got a good sweat on, and it wasn't because the heating was on either!  It is a fantastic opportunity to really push yourself in a group setting with the trainers egging you along.  Looks like Sat is going to become a common theme, so hope to see more of the team there.  Have a great weekend.  Lisa :-)

It’s been a tough week team, I’ve officially just become bloody single yet again , so I’ve only managed a couple of days in the gym, yet I’ve managed to get to the pub heaps !

Maybe it’s not the drink or the fatty foods, maybe the bloody wedding cake has been causing me so much pain for so many years ???!!!!

And those who may be single, isn’t life very cruel to you when you’re single all of a sudden, it’s like the world knows, and everyone’s finding it really very funny.

I now get phone calls at night: 'Mitch -- hi, it's Blockbuster video. It's nine o'clock, you're not here yet. Just wanted to call and make sure you're OK.'

And it doesn’t stop there, it was my daughter’s birthday this week, so I went to Toys R Us and asked the girl "How much is that new Barbie in the window?"

She said "Which one? We have 'Barbie goes to the gym' for $19.95 ....'Barbie goes to the Ball' for $19.95 ....'Barbie goes shopping' for $19.95 ....'Barbie goes to the beach' for $19.95

....'Barbie goes to the Nightclub' for $19.95 ....and 'Just split up from her husband Barbie' for $675.00".

"Shit” I said, “Why is she $675.00, when all the others are $19.95"

Ah well she said, "THAT Barbie comes with Ken's car, house, boat and furniture”

Progress Report Card

Bugger – if there weren’t points attached to blogging, I wouldn’t be sharing like this but you asked for it.

 

My report card reads:

 

Hydration         B          Much better – sipping away at my desk, up to 2 bottles a day (currently coffee however)

Nutrition           D          Started the week well, with my little box of nuts, some dried fruit, making salad for lunch, nutritious and healthy           dinners,  to now … smoked fish pie for lunch (everything in it was white), pork roll with cracking for dinner 2 nights ago (but I actually hated the crackling, can’t handle the fat – that’s a step in the right direction)

Exercise           F          Did Yoga on Tuesday night, 2 sessions at physio (does that count – any points for going to the physio?).  I blame Jimmy being away – I am a rudderless ship without him – he’s my WeightWatchers!  Someone I have to report to at least twice a week.  Pathetic, eh?  Reasons, not excuses.

 

So basically I’ve had most of the week off - will do better.  If this was a work performance review, would I be on a verbal or written warning?

 

Juddy – if I blog twice before 9pm, does it could as 2 people?

I'm losing it!

I started with a hiss and a roar.......I’ve gone to Spin, Pilates, Yoga and Boxing in addition to my usual work outs with Jimmy, I’ve been at the gym almost every day, I reckon it would be easier to just set up camp there.  Now I’m fading but hopefully tomorrow’s session will give me the necessary kick in the pants to get me going again....

First time at Yoga

Hi everyone,

 

I went to Yoga last night with Lisa to try and try some different classes and to rack up some more points for our team.

 

I have to say I really enjoyed it for a relatively first timer, although it was amazing that moves that look so simple are actually really hard!!!

 

Definitely will be going back to next weeks class, and recommend to other Maruans who need some stretching after all their other workouts at the gym!

sorry team....

I was pulled into a large deal Tuesday afternoon and haven’t made it to the gym since MONDAY…..Too much coffee and not planning my food ahead has made for a BAD WEEK!

Fingers crossed I see you in the morning as I have a project close off tonight in town….could be messy!

Such a hard life!!!

Complete imbalance and not one gym visit this week as too much work :(  One walk on Wednesday night to console myself.  And an protien rich apricot square right now for good measure.

Lisa's Progress Report

Hi team,
     I had a fitness test and review with Juddy today before an awesome upper body work out, and have made some good progress which hopefully contributes to the overall result for Team MARU.  I started this journey 6 weeks ago (one month prior to Evolution) and have increased my fitness level significantly by doing at least 4 high intensity cardio sessions a week (active fit, spin or own interval cardio on bike/treadmill + sessions with Juddy) over this period. 2 weeks into Evolution and around 2 kgs down.
     I will be coming to the group session tomorrow morning (sat) at 9am and attending Hit It (Boxing) class next Wed, MC2, Yoga and Latin dancing on Thu which should take me close to completing the 8 classes to get max points.  Think I  have to do one more class (Kick It) the following Mon and I am done.  Anyone who is keen to join in with me, pse let me know.
     See you all on Sat hopefully.

Bonus points up for grabs!!!

Morning to you Evo Die hards out there!!!

Just a small wee update about the 12 week challenge, getting some rules all sorted and general feedback

The first few weeks seemed to be the seeding of some very strong teams at the moment. Every team has there own little style, a celebrity appearance of the god zeus, some very intense workouts from Septu, and group Pilates for Minerva. Points have been dished out fairly and I have done it like this

· All attendance recorded by all members is recorded in our membership software and is transported to a spreadsheet and checked by myself

· All attendance times are observed to counteract the ‘double beepers’ trying to score an extra visit

· If you come in and go to a class it is recorded as a gym session AND a group fitness session

· You must do 8 DIFFERENT classes in a calendar month (1st June – 31st June for first month allotments) to get maximum points.

· I will tally group fitness at the end of the month as it gives everyone till the doors close on the 31st to gain points

BONUS POINTS

If you blog on your team site Friday 18th between the hours of 7am and 9 pm you will get 3 bonus points per team member blog.

It can be about anything you decide as long as you post it on your team and put your name at the bottom ( remember no footers)

If everyone in your team has put in a blog and I check it on the team manifest, I will issue a bonus 10 points for getting EVERY team member to blog.

It’s a team event so rally your troops and don’t take no for an answer. How hard is an email. And before you think of posting muliple blogs for all your team I can check email addresses so try not be too sneaky, the watchful eye is ever present.

so i have just done up the points for the teams and we are getting a little out of touch with the leaders.

after tonights boxing class together lets start making weekly plans which jimmy and i will explain and the format needed for us to gain max points every week.
i know some of us are away at times but that just means the rest of us can get max points and we can stay in touch with the leaders...

Mitch on Friday

Good morning team....

 

Last night I finished at the gym about 8pm so I went to a pub for a covert wine.

Walked in to find the bloody live music was provided by Jimmy my personal trainer..............oh shit busted immediately !!!!!!!

Every cloud has a silver lining though, I persuaded Jimmy to have a beer, got introduced to team mate Candice.

I officially regard Candice as a friend now, she had a wine too !!!!

 

Well as the week draws to a close I have a few observations about exercise and nutrition I feel like sharing.

 

I am learning that............

 

Organic foods are clearly only eaten by people who have squirrels as pets

Warming up before a workout can also be understood to mean an extra 15 mins under the electric blanket

Tarryn, my nutritionalist,  finds my old diet and lifestyle perversely amusing somehow. Think she wants me to pose for a ‘don’t ever let this happen to you’ poster

Running is not fun, running is something you do when a man with a knife is chasing you

 

So dear friends, its official, I belong to a gym now............ actually let me rephrase that, I clearly don’t belong, I just go.

Trucking along ok....so far!!

Hey Team,

Sorry I missed meeting you all on Monday……moved my mum over the weekend and my plumbing skills are not the best so was cleaning up a flood in her laundry instead of training. L

Didn’t get to the gym over the weekend but with the move and lots of heavy lifting I sure got a workout!

Was not the best with my eating. Had a big night in Newmarket and drank far too much plus swung past Maccas on the way home. FAIL!

But on a positive note I have started the week off well with 2hrs at the gym last night which included a spin class and an hour this morning before work. We have a pizza lunch in the boardroom today but I have my salad ready to go so hopefully I can survive the temptation.

congratulations on the first week!!

 

 

I must say people well done and a big round of fist pumps and high fives for all Teams!!

I have been well and truly encouraged by the vigour in which all teams and taking on all matters of competitveness and eager gym attendance

The scores have been posted and it looks like Team Septu will take out first weeks honours with a total of 27 points as the first weeks totals.

The other teams points come in like this

 

·         Team Athena 24

·         Team Minerva 24

·         Team Zeus 26

·         Team Maru 25

·         Team Ares 26

 

If it seems like low points never fear my loyal subjects (according to Zeus, in the baddest lightening storm ever indoors!!), because we will be having MAJOR special rounds, the kind that make you go all out to achieve, can make a team in last place leap to the front of the pack and alike.

So keep your eyes firmly fixed on this blog and your training efforts.

P.S all group fitness points will be calculated at the end of each month to avoid confusion and give people the last ditch effort to accumulate points, it can be done

Meeting the team

Hey Team Maru, very cool to meet the team members and do some "fun" team building on Monday.  Nice work Mitch as my training partner- the pain will be worth it.
Went to active fit today and you will be pleased to know it was more legs and shite loads of lunges, so I am guessing tomorrow I may feel a little like Mitch did today by tomorrow! 
At the moment I do most of my training during the day (9-10am) with a personal training session with Juddy on Thursdays.  Keen to hear when other team members do their training (or what classes you attend), as I am fairly flexible and always motivated by working out with other team members around.   Lisa :-)

Monday team building

Good to meet Danielle, Lisa, Laura and Glen – pleased to advise that my physical condition is not as bad as Mitch’s.   I know when to stop, slow down or actively rest!  That’s not say that I wasn’t pushed beyond my limit!

Eating better and drinking more water – still a way to go though but small steps.  Only a couple of glasses of wine over the weekend and I did have to have the dessert at the Warriors lunch but I was a very small rhubarb crumble and only 1 dessertspoon of ice cream.  Good healthy main of chicken salad and wilted greens! Yeh!

Woke up this morning thinking I’d been date raped by the entire contingent at Mt Eden prison, could hardly walk down the stairs and my son had to put my socks on for me.

number three... .........What was I talking about again ? I can’t think straight I’m so bloody hungry !

Sunday Morning

I am dazed and confused......

Had steak and veggies for dinner with a glass of water Saturday night, can’t remember the last Saturday night without wine.

This morning I had high fibre cereal with yoghurt and fruit.........

I believe I have entered a parallel universe where fat and alcohol are replaced by fibre, water and small cute furry animals.

Off to the gym now, someone must have spiked my water......

Maru - What does it mean?

Hi all,
 
Thought this would be relevant - in case you were wondering what our team name represented.
 
Maru is a Maori war god, especially well known in southern NZ where he replaces Tumatauenga, the war god of the rest of NZ.  Maru is the son of Rangihore (god of rocks and stones) and the grandson of Maui.  Not a lot else is known about Maru - the information on him on the internet is pretty limited.
