Bonus Challenge - Viva Latin Dance

Hi guys,

Just counted up the points earned from last week and Zeus is still sitting on top with Athena following close behind them.

For this week’s Bonus Challenge we’re pulling out something that we did last year…..

Viva Latin Dance class Thursday night @ 7pm

Each team member that attends and participates in the whole class will earn 10 points. You must wear your Evolution t-shirt to earn the points, and we’ll have a dance off between one member from each team where extra points can be earned.

Although there is one more thing….you must get a photo of your team members some time during the class and post this up on the Genesis Fitness Remuera Facebook page. This needs to be done by this Sunday 31st otherwise you do not earn any points for your teams attendance.

The rules:

-          Evolution t-shirt must be worn (for those few who don’t have their t-shirts yet this does not include you)

-          You cannot be anymore than 10minutes late to the class

-          You cannot leave the class early

-          A photo of your team members participating in the class needs to be posted on Facebook by end of Sunday 31st

-          Have fun!

FYI…we’ve had a lot of Evolution members suggest some sort of challenge between each team that also includes the team captains.

We are definitely looking to do some sort of Bootcamp relay for the last Bonus round. It has not been decided yet what exactly will be involved in the challenge, but we’re looking to hold this the end of the last week on Saturday 3rd September.

We’re also in the midst of planning the party for the end of the 12 Week Challenge. This will also be on Saturday 3rd September and will be held at the Paddington in Parnell. The party was a big hit last year and a great end to the challenge and it would be great to have you all attend J

Keep up the good work!

Anna

Evolution T-Shirts Have Arrived!

Our Evolution T-shirts have finally arrived at the gym J

See one of the staff members at the gym and they’ll grab your t-shirt for you.

We may even throw in some extra points at some stage for teams wearing their t-shirts J

Keep up the good work guys!

Week 3 Bonus Challenge

This week we have a exciting challenge that involves strength and endurance. Time to put all this gym training you guys have been doing to good use!

Straight arm DB front raise hold –

5 team members must perform this exercise while a staff member times them. Depending on how long you hold the dumbbell up for, will depend on how many points you earn for your team.

The rules:

-          Bum, shoulders against the wall with head back. Feet can be a foot length away from the wall.

-          Elbows must be locked and cannot bend during the exercise

-          Women hold 3kg and men hold 7kg

-          Dumbbell must be held at shoulder height and if it drops your time is stopped

-          You must hold the dumbbell up using the correct technique and a staff member will time how long it is held for

-          For every 30seconds you will earn 5 points

-          You must make either the minute or half a minute mark otherwise you do not earn the 5 points

-          Only 5 team members are to participate

-          Challenge must be complete by Friday

Once all team members have completed the challenge, we will add up the times and you’ll earn 5points for every 30 seconds.

So amongst your teams, decide on the strongest 5 people to do the challenge and come see myself, Sia of Callum to time you for the exercise.

In case any of you are unsure of what the exercise is, I have added a photo of one of our instructors Sia performing the exercise. Sia ended up holding the dumbbell up for 2minutes and 30seconds.

Points update will be done by the end of today.

Keep up the good work guys!

RE: Week 2

Haroooo team Maru

So we had an ok week last week and we still sitting last, which is not as good as Jimmy and I were hoping for.

Joker week out of the way, let’s set up for maximum points for all members this week, as we need it too catch up before we get too far behind.

High 5s to all who got max points, Andrew well done despite a late start to the week, and all the girls going strong, as always.

I had a gym training session with Shelley and Becs on Wednesday and I’m happy to do more of those for you all or set up a regular time and day for anyone. I appreciate that some are busy in the evening, but let’s make a great start this week... pwetty pwease.

So last week, Jimmy and i are more than happy to help with nutrition. I have plenty time to sit down this week to chat thru any problems or goals you want to achieve weight wise. I think we need to all be conscious of our eating regimes, and I thought a great idea to come together potentially sometime this week to go over everyone’s stuff. There was talk of going somewhere where we can watch Jimmy on Wednesday, but potentially we need somewhere kid friendly for you folks with young ones.

One team did an early morning breaky perhaps we could replicate? Getting nutrition plans down and sorted i think could potentially be our dark horse, so im keen to help ya’ll out to any measure. I also wanted to chat about a general plan nutrition wise for us all to follow. I have mentioned it to some, but I’ll get carpal tunnel if I type it out.

Team Captain Meghan has done her first 2 week stint who’s up for the next fortnight?

I’m doing activefit tonight for whoever is keen to rumble, 5.30. I’ll give you a good run for your money that’s for sure.

If you had a little session over the weekend, you need to come spend time at the gym tonight.

Like Rocky says...

‘you gotta eat lightening, if you want to crap thunder’

Simple meaning..

We need to work harder, to get the results

Let’s get to it Maru

Yeah you & Margaret really sold that place to me last week when you said all the “locals” come straight from work in their overalls & steel cap boots and intimidate any non-regulars.

Mind you – if Margaret’s there (in her overalls, I assume), she can protect us.  I can just see Margaret - handle of lion red in hand - giving out to the local thugs on our behalf.  Mint.

Thanks Jimmy

I went on FB and figured it out (all by myself…) – ie, the unlike then like bit + the comment.  There’s only 1 other person who’s done it so far.

So shall we organise some sort of team catch up / training session for this week or next – anyone else keen on perhaps a sneaky wine?

Megs – Sarah & I are doing MC2 next Wednesday at 5:30pm so if there’s a few of us doing that we could whip up to the Villager afterwards?

if you already like the genesis FB page what you can do is 'unlike' it from the menu on the left hand side of the page. then you can 'like' it again. this is a bit cheeky and kinda defeats the purpose of getting more 'likes' on the genesis page. but if we can't get 5 of us who haven't already 'liked' it then we may need to play this card. make sure no other teams find out about this!!! apart from that, anyone on our team who doesn't already 'like' the genesis page can jump on there, 'like' it, answer the question correctly and rack up 20 points for us

Once someone can tell me what the *^%%$ Juddy is talking about I’ll get onto it.  Between not knowing the hip acronyms and not knowing the inner-workings of Facebook (or should I say FB), I’m feeling blardy old & dithery right now!!!

I think I’ve already “liked” Genesis before so does that mean I can’t do it again?

MHR = maximum heart rate for anyone racking their brains on that – hoorah, I know an acronym!

Ok Gang who is gonna get our FB points for us????

Just get 5 people from your team to ‘like’ the Genesis Fitness Remuera Facebook page as well as write the answer to this question in the ‘comment’ section on the page. It’s 20 points per person that likes and comments, although only a maximum of 5 people per team can earn the 20 points each.

The riddle is this...

·         What does the abbreviation ‘MHR’ stand for in relation to exercise?

Please put your answer in the status bar on the Genesis Fitness Remuera page, along with the team name and we can go from there.

We should take this one out as we are avid acronymers :P

Let your fingers do the work

Hi all

Rick is running a boot camp style training session on Wednesday mornings at 5.45am for $5 a head.

This is not exclusively for Athena members and we thought it might be a bit of fun (yeah rite!) to throw it open to other teams and perhaps even partake in a little healthy competition. Trainers are also welcome!

Let’s get this challenge cranking!!!!

Welcome to 2011 Evolution Challenge

Welcome everyone!!!

Well here we go again and I would like to take this chance to welcome back all the folk who were part of the challenge last year, and also give props to those of you who are trying it out for the first time, I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed.

We had a great meeting last night and i would like to help over the next few weeks answer any questions that you think you might have. Remember that you can contact you’re trainer for assistance and where they cant help, feel free to ask me directly or email info@genesisfitness.co.nz

So just to go over last night the rules and conditions i have attached them below

evolution 2011

12 week assisted lifestyle programme

Points for your team can be occurred by:

3 visits to the gym in a week = 10 points

4 visits to the gym in a week = 15 points

4 different Group Fitness classes in four weeks = 20 points

7 different Group Fitness classes in four weeks = 30 points

The points for attendance to Group Fitness classes are tallied over four week periods.

You must bring your swipe tag and swipe at reception for your visit to count. If you do not have your tag then inform staff at reception who can put you through.

Group Fitness classes must be booked and your name must be written on the class sign in sheet to earn the points.

We will also be playing what we have called the ‘Joker Card’.

To make it easier for those who are prepared to do some hard work every now and then, we have a sneaky bonus to try for.

During the first week of every four week period, if you’re able to get to three different Group Fitness classes in that one week, then for the remaining three weeks you can choose two of your favourite Group Fitness classes, and participate in those twice to the total of 7 Group Fitness classes for the four weeks.

The four week periods for the Group Fitness points to be earned are as follows:

Monday 20th June to Sunday 17th July (Joker Card week Monday 27/06 to Sunday 3/7)

Monday 18th July - Sunday 14th August (Joker Card week Monday 18/07 to Sunday 24/07)

Monday 15th August - Friday 2nd September (Joker Card week 15/08 to 21/08)

**Last installment will only be 3 weeks

These don't include the points we award for weight loss and muscle gain, which is measured by Discover Health at the beginning and end of the competition. Discover Health do the official weigh in, including BIA test at the start to correctly measure the body fat percentage and muscles mass. The BIA testing sessions are as follows: Tuesday 21st 3pm - 7pm, Wednesday 22nd 10am - 12pm and Thursday 23rd 3pm - 7pm. If you have not booked for a BIA test yet please do so at reception.

Every two weeks we will have ‘Bonus’ challenges where you can earn extra points for your team. Your team captains will inform you of upcoming bonus challenges.

Each Evolution participant has 2 x 1 week dispensation. If you’re away due to illness, work, holidays or injury, we have a system where the average points of your team mates will also be given to you.

Now if this doesn’t clarify some things for you then please ask your team captains, or contact us at the gym.

Remember to please

·         Confirm your shirt sizes to your team captains

·         Please pay your $99 entry fee

·         Book in for your BIA if you haven’t already

Ok... now get busy
